On Saturday, March 26, the BSCB Social Committee hosted our second Story Slam virtually on Zoom. About thirty persons attended, and 9 story tellers regaled the audience with sometimes funny and sometimes poignant tales.

A story slam is an opportunity to tell a favorite story to a crowd. It’s like karaoke (that is “kareeoki” for screen reader users) without the music. Stories needed to be true and from the story teller’s own experience, and a maximum of ten minutes in length.

Helen Kobek, Russell Andrews, and Carol Fithian were awarded $25 Amazon gift cards for their stories by a distinguished judging panel composed of Jerry Berrier, David Kingsbury, and Tim Cumings. Regrettably, Carol’s story was not recorded due to technical difficulties.

You can listen to the stories below, and sstart thinking about what your own story will be for our next Story Slam, which will hopefully be an in-person event.

  1. Jennifer Harnish – Capturing a Criminal
  2. Brian Charlson – The Long Journey Home
  3. Linda Faust – My Crazy ’20s
  4. Helen Kobek – Lost in the Midst of a Rumble
  5. Bruce Howell – How to Win Red Sox Tickets
  6. Donna Poselli – Locked in a Rest Room
  7. Russell Andrews – The Biggest Daredevil of Our Pack
  8. David Kingsbury – My Son’s First Baseball Game
